Cecelia Kane Statement for A Year of Forgetting
A Year of Forgettingare paintings about aging that visually, playfully record a year of daily mental lapses using my own symbols to represent the various ways I actually forget–like when someone finishes my sentence, or forgetting what I was saying after I’m interrupted, plus many more. I begin with pencil composites in my sketchbook of the symbols for each day’s forgettings. Later I make a fanciful painting that functions as a monthly map or calendar of the mental-me; poking fun, I hope, at the aging process.
