Located in the heart of downtown Montpelier Vermont. The structure at 58 State Street, most commonly known as “The Garage” has been a (longstanding) landmark for the community and visitors alike. Built around 1910, this 2 ½ story brick building originally was home to the Perry Automobile Company. This historic site has taken on many different roles over the years such as government offices, a private residence in the 1980’s, artist studios, etc. Unfortunately, in the last 10 years it has mostly sat empty.
In December of 2017 Dr. Dan and Jodi Kelly had a vision, creating a space that would appeal to both of their passions. Montpelier was a perfect location to accommodate Dr. Kelly’s central Vermont veterinary patients, and Jodi had always wanted a place to collaborate with other artists, showcase fellow creatives and work on her own photography projects, especially food.
While preserving the architectural integrity of the site including the facade, The Garage is experiencing a renaissance of sorts with a new name “The Garage Cultural Center” and a rush of energy to cultivate a connection to the diversity of interests that Vermont has to share. The second floor will host a platform for an exchange between multidisciplinary artistic expression, and a venue for a variety of creative and cultural experiences. Our (Their) mission is to educate, inspire, create, and stimulate the community in all forms of art., food, lifestyle and culture.
